Hobart Firefighters IAFF Local 1641 ratified their first contract with the City of Hobart at the October 2, 2019 City Council Meeting. John Brezik, 5th District Councilman, was among the other council members voting unanimously on the decision.
Union president Enrique Lopez and a council subcommittee comprised of City Councilman John Brezik, City Councilman Matt Claussen, and City Councilman Dan Waldrop worked on the nearly yearlong negotiations that has led to the first contract the union has had in 53 years.
Councilman Brezik, a retired Union 1066 Steel Worker, has been an ardent supporter of worker rights and was also instrumental in the Hobart Fire Station #2 renovation that helped reopen during Brezik’s leadership in the 5th district on the City Council.
