Hobart City Councilman John Brezik, 5th District, was among elected officials and builders at a special meeting to explore rehabilitating abandoned and blighted houses in the area.

“The most important thing is to get an accurate list of homes. The second is to find out the legal status of them,” Brezik said. He noted banks often do not provide information and communities don’t have staff available to sift through records at county offices.

Brezik noted he is working with a committee to explore offering incentives for rehabbing abandoned properties, especially if the property will go to a veteran.
